Bitcoin QR Code FAQ

What format does a Bitcoin QR code use?

Bitcoin QR codes follow the BIP-21 standard: bitcoin:ADDRESS?amount=X. This is supported by all major Bitcoin wallets. The amount parameter is optional — omit it to let the sender choose.

Does a Bitcoin QR code work with all wallet types?

Yes. Legacy (1...), P2SH (3...), and native SegWit / Bech32 (bc1...) addresses all work. Most modern wallets generate bc1 addresses for lower transaction fees.

Can I put a fixed BTC amount in the QR code?

Yes. Enter the amount in BTC (not USD) — e.g. 0.001 for 100,000 satoshis. The wallet will pre-fill this but the sender can edit it.

Is it safe to print my Bitcoin address publicly?

Yes. Your Bitcoin address is a public key — it is safe to share. Only your private key (or seed phrase) needs to stay secret. Sharing your receive address cannot compromise your wallet.

Can I reuse the same Bitcoin address QR code?

Technically yes, but privacy best practice is to use a new address for each transaction. Most HD wallets generate new addresses automatically. For high-volume merchant use, consider a payment processor.
