Healthcare QR Code FAQ
Is it HIPAA-safe to use QR codes for patient data?
QRCrack QR codes themselves don't store patient data β they're just a link. The destination (your intake form, booking system, or patient portal) is what handles sensitive data and must be HIPAA-compliant. We recommend linking to your existing HIPAA-compliant form or EHR patient portal, not collecting patient data on a general form tool.
Can elderly patients use QR codes?
Most smartphones made after 2018 scan QR codes natively through the camera. For patients who struggle with technology, keep a paper option available alongside the QR. The QR is a convenience for those who prefer it β not a replacement.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. QRCrack QR codes encode data directly and work forever β even if QRCrack ceases to exist. As long as your destination URL or form link is live, the QR works.
What size should I print healthcare QR codes?
At minimum 3cm Γ 3cm for table cards and prescription slips. For waiting room posters, 10cm Γ 10cm or larger. Use SVG download for crisp printing at any size.
Can I link a QR code to a Google Form for patient intake?
Yes. Create your intake form on Google Forms, copy the share link, and generate a QR from it using our URL QR tool. Note that Google Forms is not HIPAA-compliant β use a dedicated healthcare form tool for sensitive patient data.
